9/4/2011 Nettlebed Common

On a gorgeous day with plenty of sunshine it was good to work in the shadows. Today we cleared an area of elder and brambles to make it easier to fight an invasion of Himalayan Balsam (an invasive non native species). Judging by the number of young sprouts, it is going to be a hard battle to fight them. Today’s effort of clearing the area will however help to make it easier to eliminate the plants. We all felt we made a dfference today. As a bonus we consumed another masterclass cake during the coffee break. We created two big heaps of materials removed from the area we cleaned and we had that good feeling of having done something when going home. (Wim 10/4/2011)
