On 22nd August the SCGG installed an oak bench at Greys Court in memory of Jules Thomson, first Chairman of Sonning Common Green Gym. We have held work sessions at Greys Court ever since we began in 1998, and it was one of Jules’ favourite sites. He lived nearby and liaised for us with the Greys Court gardeners to set up each task. The gardeners and custodian of Greys Court joined the Chair of SODC, the Chair of Nettlebed and Commons Conservators and Dr. William Bird (who devised Green Gyms) at the installation, together with many Green Gym volunteers and in particular Jules’ family, who were the first to sit on the bench.
