The ground was hard with frost underfoot as we walked from the Watlington Hill Reserve car park to our work site, where we had a magical view from above of clouds nestling in the hill folds. Fingers and toes soon warmed up as we cut down hawthorn scrub which was threatening to smother the wild flowers on the chalk downland slope. Two bonfires also helped, as did the marmalade cake and chocolate choux buns at coffee break. Our 14-strong group (plus a surprise visit from Peter G) cleared a large area, and we look forward to a similar session after the summer.
