Today 11 volunteers worked in beautiful weather . It was the first time in a long time that we were able to work here as the site was flooded on many previous scheduled workdays. Today we performed two tasks, we prepared the meadows for mowing by clearing felt trees into heaps. The ultimate aim is to have cattle grazing the meadows, currently impossible as a highly toxic plant grows on the meadows (Hemlock Water Dropwort). Our work begins to show results, as part of the meadow now can be cut and indeed was cut. In that area we created ‘hay’ stacks where we hope grass snakes can find a habitat.
