Vegetation in Cleeve Water Meadow has shot up, and our main task at the end of July was to clear away a metre each side of the fence line on the western side. Shears were the best tool for cutting down the reed, willow herb and bindweed, which was then barrowed to a bonfire. Any lily seeds we found were saved for future planting.
A secondary task was clearing the brash from a huge felled ash tree in the drove road. All branches of a size for log burning were cut and placed in neat piles, while twigs were hauled to be burnt on the fire.
